Comedy Shows in Detroit
Detroit has an important place in American comedy history, and its stand-up tradition extends well beyond the city limits into the surrounding metro area. In nearby Royal Oak, Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle opened in 1979 and has played a role in the early careers of Michigan comedians.
Detroit comedy often carries the same directness associated with the city itself. Working life, cars, families, sports, suburban-versus-city culture, Michigan weather, and Detroit's complicated history provide plenty of material. Audiences tend to appreciate confidence and authenticity.
